About

Born in Reston, Virginia, I began designing and building wooden furniture in 2013 after discovering the art of wood working my sophomore year of college. Currently studying to receive my BFA in Craft and Material Studies from Virginia Commonwealth University, I plan on continuing my studio practice and work to build and sell unique handmade furniture and art. My work explores the possibilities and limitations of wood as a medium. By employing traditional woodworking techniques, modern forms, and a minimalist aesthetic, I aim to translate moments in nature where remarkable happenings and intersections occur.  These points of intersections can be small; like a manmade handrail mimicking the mountain behind it, captured in a landscape photograph, or large; like a civilization forever changing a landscape by carving terraces into the mountain side or rerouting rivers through their towns. Photographs I have taken to record this have become the underlying reference material for my most recent ongoing series “Intersections”.  Seeing the human hand collide with nature in these large or small moments has inspired me to respond to locally found, un-milled cross sections of logs in conjunction with modern woodworking techniques
